Diamond Head Crater & Lookout
Your journey begins in style with a cruise right into Le‘ahi — Diamond Head Crater itself. We pass through the historic tunnel bored into the crater wall and emerge inside a 300,000-year-old volcanic tuff cone, once a key military lookout guarding the island. On the way out, we pause at the lookout near the tunnel’s high point for sweeping views over the southeast shoreline — a perfect first taste of what the day holds.
Halona Blowhole & Eternity Beach
Two natural wonders share one dramatic stretch of lava coastline. The Halona Blowhole — formed thousands of years ago by molten lava tubes reaching the sea — funnels incoming swells through a submerged lava shelf and launches geysers of seawater high into the air; the bigger the surf, the bigger the show. From the same lookout, gaze down on Halona Cove, better known as Eternity Beach, where the famous surf-side embrace in the 1953 classic “From Here to Eternity” was filmed. It’s one of O‘ahu’s most photogenic views — and most visitors drive right past it.
Makapu‘u Lookout
Perched above the easternmost point of O‘ahu, the Makapu‘u Lookout delivers breathtaking views of turquoise water, windward sea cliffs, and the offshore seabird sanctuaries of Mānana (Rabbit Island) and Kāohikāipu. In winter months, keep your eyes on the channel — humpback whales cruise these waters and often put on a show. On clear days you can see all the way up the windward coastline you’re about to explore.

Leonard’s Malasadas
A Hawai‘i must. Sink your teeth into hot, fresh-from-the-fryer Portuguese doughnuts — crispy on the outside, pillowy on the inside, and rolled in sugar while still warm. Brought to the islands by Portuguese plantation workers and perfected by Leonard’s Bakery since 1952, the malasada is a beloved piece of local food culture. Try the classic, or go for one filled with haupia (coconut cream) if you’re feeling adventurous (malasadas not included in tour price).
Byodo-In Temple
Nestled at the foot of the emerald Ko‘olau cliffs in the Valley of the Temples, the Byodo-In is a stunning replica of a 950-year-old Buddhist temple in Uji, Japan. Ring the three-ton sacred bell for good fortune, wander the koi ponds and meditation gardens, and watch black swans glide beneath the misty pali. It’s one of the most peaceful — and most photographed — places on the island.

This is the O‘ahu that takes people’s breath away. As we cruise the windward coast, the fluted cliffs of the Ko‘olau range tower thousands of feet above the road — the eroded remains of a massive shield volcano, carved by a million years of wind, rain, and epic volcanic forces. Around every bend: dramatic pali, offshore islets rising from turquoise bays, sleepy fishing villages, and postcard ocean views the entire way. Cameras ready — this stretch is pure magic.
Lunch at Tanaka Kahuku Shrimp
Arguably the best shrimp on the island. The aquaculture farms of Kahuku made the North Shore shrimp truck famous, and Tanaka is where locals send their friends. Savor plump, locally raised garlic shrimp sizzled in butter and served with rice — simple, messy, unforgettable (lunch not included in tour price).

Welcome to the Seven-Mile Miracle. We cruise the legendary North Shore coastline past Pipeline, Sunset Beach, and Waimea Bay — hallowed ground in the surfing world. In winter, monster swells draw the best surfers on the planet to waves that can top 30 feet; in summer, the same shoreline turns to glassy, swimmable turquoise. Either season, it’s a beautiful ride through surf history.
Macadamia Nut Farm Stop
O‘ahu is home to a couple of wonderful, family-run macadamia nut farms — and depending on the day’s timing and flow, we’ll stop in at one of them (maybe even both!). Sample fresh-roasted macadamias in flavors from honey-glazed to chocolate-dipped, sip island-grown coffee, and learn how Hawai‘i became the macadamia capital of the world. Every visit is a little different — that’s part of the fun.
Explore Hale‘iwa Town
Time to stretch your legs in the heart and soul of the North Shore. Historic Hale‘iwa town is a charming mix of plantation-era storefronts, surf shops, art galleries, food trucks, and boutiques — with a world-famous shave ice waiting if you’ve saved room. Dole Plantation
We wrap up the loop through O‘ahu’s red-dirt pineapple country with a stop at the world-famous Dole Plantation. Learn how pineapple shaped Hawai‘i’s history, browse the plantation store, and treat yourself to the freshest Dole Whip on the island — the perfect sweet ending before we cruise back over the central plateau toward Waikīkī.

What's the best way to see all of Oahu in one day without renting a car?
A guided circle island tour. Summit Oahu picks you up at your Waikiki hotel and drives the whole loop of the island in one day — the southeast coast, the windward side, the North Shore and back through the central plantation lands — so there's no rental car, no parking and no navigating. A local guide does the driving and the storytelling.
Does the tour stop at the Byodo-In Temple?
Yes, on the full-day tour. Every full-day small-group tour stops at the Byodo-In Temple in the Valley of the Temples on the windward side, a replica of a 950-year-old Buddhist temple in Uji, Japan, set beneath the Koolau cliffs. You can ring the temple bell and walk the koi ponds and gardens. The half-day tour does not stop at the temple.
Is there hiking or snorkeling on the tour?
No. This is a sightseeing tour: you ride in an air-conditioned van and get out at each stop for short, easy walks to lookouts, beaches and town. There is no hiking and no snorkeling time, which makes it a good fit for most ages and fitness levels. If you want a hike or a snorkel, plan it for another day.
How is Summit Oahu different from the big bus tours?
Size and who's guiding. The van never carries more than 13 guests, and the owners, Trey and Nikki, currently guide every tour themselves with live, unscripted commentary — no recorded narration, no 50-seat coach. And as far as we know, it's the only circle island tour on Oahu that can be guided in Turkish.
How much does the tour cost?
The full-day small-group circle island tour is $149 per person, and the Half-Day Island Tour is $179 per person. Private tours are $1,299 for up to four guests in a Mercedes GLC 300, or $2,199 for up to 13 guests in a private passenger van. Hawaii General Excise Tax is added at checkout. Food and drinks are not included.
How big are the groups? Can I book as a solo traveler or couple?
Yes. The full-day small-group tour takes 1 to 13 guests, so solo travelers, couples and families are all welcome — there is no minimum. Our van seats 14 passengers, but we only ever sell 13 seats so nobody rides wall-to-wall. The half-day tour is even smaller: never more than 3 guests.
Where and when is pickup?
The full-day small-group tour picks up from Waikiki hotels starting at 6:15am and returns you to Waikiki in time for happy hour. The half-day tour picks up at 7:45am and returns between 12:00 and 12:30pm. Choose your hotel from the list when you book. Private tours set their own departure time and can also pick up from Ko Olina and Turtle Bay.
Who are the guides?
Summit Oahu is owned and guided by Trey and Nikki, a husband-and-wife team with over two decades of guiding experience between them and nearly ten years guiding on Oahu. Right now the two of them guide every tour themselves. Commentary is live and unscripted, not a recording.
Do you offer tours in Turkish?
Yes. Nikki guides private circle island tours in Turkish (Türkçe), which is rare on Oahu. Turkish tours are private tours — see our Turkish page, which also covers honeymoon packages.
Is Summit Oahu licensed and insured?
Yes. Summit Oahu is a licensed passenger carrier certificated by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (PUC certificate 01390-C), registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT 6998685), and carries commercial auto insurance.
What is your cancellation policy?
Small-group and half-day seats cancelled 48 hours or more before pickup are refunded in full, less card processing fees; 24–48 hours gets a 50% refund; under 24 hours is non-refundable. Private tours need 7 days' notice for a full refund. Rescheduling outside those windows is free. If we cancel for weather or safety, you choose a full refund or a free reschedule. We run rain or shine.
Can children come on the tour?
Yes, as part of a family booking. Every guest occupying a seat needs their own ticket, and parents bring any required child car seat.
Is lunch included?
No. On the full-day tour, lunch is at Tanaka Kahuku Shrimp on the North Shore, and snacks along the way (malasadas, shave ice, Dole Whip) are paid for separately, so you only buy what you want. The half-day tour is back in Waikiki by lunchtime.
Is it spelled Oahu or Oʻahu?
Both are right. Oʻahu is the Hawaiian spelling: the mark before the 'a' is an ʻokina, a glottal stop, so the name is said "oh-AH-hoo". Oahu is the everyday English spelling you'll see on maps and signs. Summit Oahu and Summit Oʻahu are the same company.
